James Lesueur was an illustrator for the Post-Dispatch in the 1900's. He is only listed in the Gould's St. Louis Directory in 1905, being listed as an artist. I have found his art in the Post-Dispatch in 1905 and 1906. It is hard to find out much else about him.
He took over drawing the Weatherbird sometime after Chopin left the paper in December 1904, at least by mid January. He went on to draw the bird for about three months. His birds can be identified by an abbreviated signature, "Les" or sometimes just "L".
He also filled in for a few days in 1906.
A Selection of Some of His Birds
Lesueur quickly moves away from Chopin's baby bird style, drawing more beady-eyed bird-shaped birds.
Not initialed but probably Lesueur

Last known signed "Les"
Not signed but probably Lesueur, and one of the last of his run.
Lesueur must have been filling in for the regular bird artist. The style is consistent outside of this bird and the three below (except in August).
Filling in again.
The last of his four 1906 birds and the last of any of his birds, that I can find.
